shutterstock_121466962We are constantly talking about what we are putting into our bodies on a daily basis, what is good for us and what is bad and in doing this we quite often forget that what we are putting on our skin is equally as important. Eat your vegies and drink plenty of water seems to be the Mantra of the day, but maybe we need to add to that with ”treat your skin with the respect it deserves’.  Its incredibly important that we use only quality products on our skin. Why? Well here is the thing, the skin works as a protective barrier for the body.  It protects us from pollutants and helps regulate body temperature, its our first line of defense.

So what are the key factors to look for in a skincare product?  Firstly, what is the quality of the ingredients and how active are they on the skin? The more active the ingredients are in a product the deeper they will penetrate the layers of the skin and the deeper the penetration, the greater the results. Secondly and equally important is the question of what the product will do for your skin and does it target your concerns? Its about what works for you.

Makeup remover, cleansers, toners, serums and moisturisers are all products we should be using on our skin on a daily basis.  Exfoliants should be used several times a week  to remove dead skin cells and promote healthy skin renewal and the regular application of a mask  will draw out impurities and nourish the skin.  Popular masks are designed for decongesting, hydrating, soothing and anti-aging and its important to choose the one that is most likely to give you the result you are seeking.

Last but definitely not least, apply a daily sunscreen to your skin. We live in an exceptionally harsh environment and the effects of the sun on the skin are extremely damaging, leading to pigmentation and weakening of elastin and collagen.  A minimum SPF 30 is recommended.

Know what you are putting on your skin and invest in good quality product.  Your skin will thank you for it.
